Official Launch of Kings Road Boutique
The Fran and Jane London boutique on the Kings Road opened its doors in May of this year and we are delighted to report that it has made quite the impact amongst UK shoppers who have welcomed our store with open arms! To celebrate the store’s success to date, the official launch was held on Thursday August 19th 2010, hosted by mother and daughter design duo Fran and Laura Nolan and also Jane Baker.

The boutique looked simply gorgeous on the night covered in pink and white Fran and Jane balloons and rails filled with our beautiful new AW10 collection. Guests arrived in typical Fran and Jane fashion up a pink carpet with some very familiar faces in the UK and Ireland attending, such as MTV’s Laura Whitmore and noted Vogue fashion and reportage photographer Alistair Guy (see blog post link below). Guests sipped on champagne to celebrate the arrival of this established Irish retail brand in to the UK market. Atmosphere was created on the night by UK solo jazz guitarist Jo Caleb who kept guests in good spirits as they nibbled on delicious canapés. The evening included a showcasing of our AW collection by some gorgeous M and P model management models and went down a storm with UK shoppers and fashion press.
Guests were sent home with juicy Fran and Jane goodie bags containing Fran and Jane vouchers and quirky lollipops, in addition to treats from some of Fran and Jane’s new neighbours on the Kings Road such as Molton Brown and The Body Shop and also a membership gift voucher for exclusive private members club Morton’s of Berkley Square.
Celebrations continued after the in store launch in Morton’s of Berkley Square where Fran and Jane invited their guests to join them for an after party ,where an amazing night was had by all!

Gráinne Seoige gives viewers a Sneak Peek at Fran and Jane AW 2010/11
The beautiful Grainne Seoige has been creating quite a stir of late in her new role with GMTV. The ultra glam presenter has taken prime position on the famous GMTV red couch, tasked with the role of dishing the dirt on the world of celebrity to millions of homes around the UK.
We here at Fran and Jane were so proud to have the Galway native showcase our AW 2010/11 collection to the world by wearing our pieces during her various appearances on the show. Going from sophisticated glamour in our Shona 2 white shift dress with black stone embellishment, to feminine and pretty in our bright fuchsia collared knit dress, Grainne did not disappoint each morning looking a million dollars!
Following her show stopping appearance on the show, ITV1’s Daybreak announced on July 20th 2010 that Grainne will become part of ITV’s ongoing strategy to renew and refresh its programming by joining their new team as Features Editor.
Our shoppers can get their hands on the Fran and Jane pieces seen on Grainne mid –August as our beautiful AW 2010/11 collection arrives in stores. The new collection is STUNNING and we simply cannot wait to share it with our shoppers.

Style Wars
Fran and Jane HQ have been abuzz this week with excitement due to our feature in episode 3 of TV3’s hottest new show ‘Style Wars’.
The fashion industry’s answer to ‘The Apprentice’, the show has been a major hit to date with Irish viewers, largely due to its famous judges Caprice, Ian Galvin and Peter O’Brien. Given their vast experience and influence within the
fashion industry, the opinions of these well known judges are no doubt crucially important to the hopeful contestants as they compete for a senior creative role at Aurora Fashion’s international offices and the chance to co-create the next ByCaprice fashion line.
Episode 3 was explosive and saw contestants for the first time working individually and competing against one another. The task assigned by mentor Angela Woods was to create an advertorial for Lipton Tea, by styling a look using pieces from Fran and Jane and inspired by the colour palette of one of seven different Lipton tea variants, from Pink Citrus to Peppermint Green.
The contestants spent a day at Fran and Jane HQ in Fashion City trawling through rail after rail of stock, stacks of shoes and piles of accessories. Spying on the contestants as they worked and having seen the various items which they pulled out on the day, we were all so intrigued to see the final looks on this week’s show and what they came up with was no less than incredible! Each contestant styled a look completely unique of the next, with every look getting quirkier and more and more inspired!

This winner from this week’s episode was David Green who created a sensational look inspired by Lipton Tea’s Forest Fruits flavour. David styled his Fran and Jane outfit using a mix of purples including our Carli 10 dress, Cutie shoe boots and Mars 9 coat. Although all looks styled were great David was the outright winner for this week’s task and we here at Fran and Jane absolutely LOVED what he created! Although we are disappointed that our episode has come and gone we cannot wait for next week’s episode to see what challenge faces the remaining contestants!

Love me and Care for Me – Denim
Here at Fran and Jane HQ we know that many of our customers find shopping for a new pair of jeans a very strenous and time consuming experience! Finding a pair that is the right fit, wash and shape for your body type can be pretty tough so when shoppers do find that perfect pair, we know that they very often want to hold on to them for as long as they possibly can! In an attempt to help our shoppers to maintain the fit and colour of their most treasured jeans, we have put together a short list below of some useful tips to explain how best to Love and Care for denim:
- Not all denims will require the same laundering process and so it is important to always read the care label for each new pair.
- Always turn jeans inside-out before laundering; it keeps the rivets, buttons or zipper from snagging other clothes and from grazing the side of the washer.
Caring for Denim
- If using a powdered detergent, turning the jeans inside out keeps the powder from making unwanted whisker effects on the fabric.
- Wash in cold water to prevent excess dye loss (colour) and to control shrinkage.
- Use a liquid detergent designed especially for cold water laundering or specific for laundering denim.
- Bleach should never be used on denim as this will destroy the colour / wash of denim.
- Air, towel or hang dry, if possible; or use the lowest dryer setting.
- To store denim, it is best to fold them; wire coat hangers can create an unwanted crease and clip hangers can prematurely distress the cuffs or waist of the denim.
- The best way to store denim is the way you see them in stores: fold one leg over the other so the that the zipper or buttons are inside the fold, then fold them in half lengthwise, then half again.
