Love me and Care for Me – Denim
Here at Fran and Jane HQ we know that many of our customers find shopping for a new pair of jeans a very strenous and time consuming experience! Finding a pair that is the right fit, wash and shape for your body type can be pretty tough so when shoppers do find that perfect pair, we know that they very often want to hold on to them for as long as they possibly can! In an attempt to help our shoppers to maintain the fit and colour of their most treasured jeans, we have put together a short list below of some useful tips to explain how best to Love and Care for denim:
- Not all denims will require the same laundering process and so it is important to always read the care label for each new pair.
- Always turn jeans inside-out before laundering; it keeps the rivets, buttons or zipper from snagging other clothes and from grazing the side of the washer.
- If using a powdered detergent, turning the jeans inside out keeps the powder from making unwanted whisker effects on the fabric.
- Wash in cold water to prevent excess dye loss (colour) and to control shrinkage.
- Use a liquid detergent designed especially for cold water laundering or specific for laundering denim.
- Bleach should never be used on denim as this will destroy the colour / wash of denim.
- Air, towel or hang dry, if possible; or use the lowest dryer setting.
- To store denim, it is best to fold them; wire coat hangers can create an unwanted crease and clip hangers can prematurely distress the cuffs or waist of the denim.
- The best way to store denim is the way you see them in stores: fold one leg over the other so the that the zipper or buttons are inside the fold, then fold them in half lengthwise, then half again.

Love Me and Care for Me – Beading
Fran and Jane have compiled a list of a few tips for keeping your clothes lovely and cared for….
Silk Beaded Dresses
When washing our silk beaded garnments we suggest that you do not in fact dry clean these as the beads sometimes melt if the machine is too hot!! Instead we recommend that you do as follows:
- Hand wash in luke warm water (this means water that you would put a baby in!)
- Add in a small amount of woolite or silk detergent (Marks and Spencers do a very gentle detergent that works well)
- Rinse in cool water
- Place inside out in a pillow case and put in a washing machine on spin for NO LONGER than 30 seconds
- Hang to dry, and when the dress is still slightly damp, use a cool iron to remove the creases
TIP: For dark colours add a small fist full of salt into the washing basin and again when rinsing it, this helps to retain the colour of the dress.
If there are no beads on the dress and it sates to dry clean it then please DRY CLEAN it ONLY
Knitware Beading
If the knitware you have bought is beaded we recommend that you hand wash this in the same way as the silk garnments above. However do not place in a pillow case to spin dry, to dry the knit lay it out flat and reshape it.
We hope you find the above helpful and that you enjoy wearing your garments as much as we did making them. They were made with love, care and attention and they expect this to carry on for the rest of their lives!!!
Lots of love,
The Fran and Jane team xxXXxx
