May 27th, 2010 Sneak Peek

This is How the Magic Happens !!!

We here at Fran and Jane HQ are so proud of our labels ‘Fran and Jane’ and ‘Regine’ that we want to give our shoppers a sneak peek behind the scenes and into our design studio’s to give you a glimpse at how the magic happens and what lovely pieces we have in store for you! Originally a wholesale label way back when in 1974, our design and production team has grown and learned a few tricks along the way to develop a strict eight step process that turns a scrap of material into one of the beautiful dresses that you see in our stores.

Step 1: Idea Generation

The first key step in the creative process is Idea Generation. Our designers take inspiration for the season ahead from various trusty sources such as Enterprise Ireland’s ‘Fashion Forecast’. Here they learn what’s hot and what’s not in fabrics, shapes, colours and what will be filling the rails of the high street in the month’s to come.

Step 2: Looking through the Fran and Jane Lens

Putting our own Fran and Jane stamp on the season’s trends is so important to making sure we keep our customers happy! Our years of experience and hearing shoppers feedback has taught us what works on our rails and for the tastes of our shoppers.

Step 3: Sketching

Ideas are sketched by our in house designers and fabrics are applied to create storylines for each collection. One fabric is chosen per storyline with an average of ten fabrics making up a collection.

Step 4: Design Approval

Once ideas have been sketched and fabrics selected by the design team, Fran Nolan and daughter Laura are the creative critiques which have the final say on all designs and instruct on the necessary tweaks, changes and additions to be made on every design and pattern.

Step 5: Sampling

Once the team is certain that they are on to a winner the sketches and designs are then brought to life and sampled by our designers in Fran and Jane HQ.

Step 6: The 3 x F’s: Fittings, Finish and Fabulousness!

This is our favourite part of the whole process! Once samples have been created they are then fitted on models to ensure they look as good in real life as they do on paper. Quality of garment is huge for us and it is at this stage we make sure that the fabrics, shape and detail of every piece is 100% FABULOUS! Designs are often scrapped at this stage if the team feels they just don’t make the cut.

Step 7: Production

Once each of the previous 6 steps has been completed and the team are happy with samples the finished product is sent with instructions and guidelines to be produced in Poland. Key to the Fran and Jane ethos is that designs are never reproduced and only a certain number of each design is created each season.

Step 8: Constant Drop Ethos

To make sure that we always have our fingers on the pulse, Fran and Jane work to a ‘constant drop’ business model. Here two large collections are created each year Spring Summer and Autumn Winter, but to keep our shoppers appetites satisfied our designers (when inspired) are constantly adding to the collection with pieces they feel will tickle our shoppers fancies!

Lots of love,

The Fran and Jane Team xxXXxx
